"Melqui makes songs that transcends languages and borders. Their debut LP, Your Smile, S’il Vous Plaît, invites reflection on themes such as identity, self-awareness, belonging, humor, and surrealism." - IndieHoy

Melqui is a band formed in Amsterdam, Netherlands in 2020.

They comprise Lautaro Hochman (Argentina, Portugal), Siebren Smink (Netherlands), Sara Frances Tompkins (USA), Aniol Torrents (Catalunya) and Chen Har-Even (Israel).

Melqui has been credited with the crossover of Latin, Indie, and Experimental Music and praised for their singular musical approach reflecting on themes such as identity, self-awareness, belonging, humor, and surrealism.

Melqui signed to Bloomer Records in 2022 and released their self-titled EP ‘MELQUI’ that year, described as delicate, tranquil, and melancholic. The Latin grooves and vocal cadence in MELQUI pay homage to Lau’s Argentinian and Portuguese musical heritage and draw comparisons to artists such as Devendra Bahnhart and Tim Bernardes.

In 2023, Melqui released their debut LP “ Your Smile, S’il Vous Plaît”.

With this album, Melqui toured in the Netherlands with shows at Cinetol, De Nieuw Anita, Paard, Doornroosje, Slimfest, Surfana Fest, Tivoli Vredenburg and Le Guess Who? and with support slots for Erlend Øye and La Comitiva, Cruzando el Charco, Molly Lewis, and Nico Play culminating in a headline release concert at Paradiso Amsterdam.

Melqui's soft-more LP.  Brown,  recorded live in the Catalan mountains and produced by

Tim Schakel (Nana Adjoa, Leah Rye) will be released in 2025.

This concept album is the official soundtrack for the 1986 Mexican-American romantic comedy-drama film of the same name. Brown is the third film written and directed by Arnoldo Marron. Produced by Polish-American entrepreneur Mylo Brozovinsky, Brown had moderate success in the United States, it grossed $32,779 ($8,194 per screen) in its opening weekend. Playing at 20 theatres at its widest point. Earning generally favorable reviews, the film was quietly forgotten until a partially censored Japanese laserdisc generated enough interest online for an official release on DVD in 2007.

Through this re-release. The film was promoted with a controversial campaign designed by Dutch artist and graphic designer Pieter de Bruin. Brown’s marketing posters contained slogans such as ‘Don't step on it!’ ‘Achieve brownness of mind and body!’ ‘Have you seen Mr.Brown?’
